Lebanese Ambassador to India Dr. Rabih Narsh pledges support to IACCIA
In a gesture aimed at strengthening Arab-Indian economic relations and fostering regional cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rabih Narsh, Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon to India, paid an official visit to the India and Arab Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (IACCIA) in New Delhi.
Dr. Narsh was received by Dr. Waiel Awwad, Acting Secretary General of the Chamber’s operations. During the visit, the Ambassador was briefed on the workflow and final preparations underway for the official launch of the Chamber in India.
The Ambassador expressed his deep appreciation for the organisational and professional efforts being made, and commended Dr. Awwad for laying a solid foundation for economic cooperation between India and the Arab world. He also reaffirmed Lebanon’s full support for the Chamber’s mission, expressing his willingness to contribute to its success in advancing mutual interests.
In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted the strong political, economic, and cultural relations between Lebanon and India, rooted in mutual respect and cooperation at the international level. He noted the existence of several bilateral agreements that frame and enhance this cooperation, including: 1) An air services agreement, 2) An agreement on the avoidance of double taxation for airline companies, 3) A cultural and heritage cooperation agreement, 4) An educational exchange programs, 5) An agreement to operate direct flights between Beirut and Indian cities.
He further explained that while trade volume between the two countries remains modest due to geographical distance and the size of Lebanon’s economy, it is showing continuous growth. Lebanon’s exports to India include raw metals, chemical products, and optical and medical instruments, while India’s exports to Lebanon primarily include pearls, precious stones, agricultural products, meat, and electrical machinery.
Ambassador Narsh also praised India’s humanitarian role during the COVID-19 pandemic, acknowledging the medical aid provided to Lebanon, and lauded India’s active contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Southern Lebanon.
In conclusion, the Ambassador expressed Lebanon’s keen interest in the successful launch of the India-Arab Chamber, voicing hope that it will serve as a dynamic platform for advancing Arab-Indian economic cooperation and a new pillar for joint Arab action in South Asia.
السفير اللبناني في الهند يؤكد دعمه لانطلاقة الغرفة العربية الهندية للتجارة والصناعة والزراعة
في إطار تعزيز العلاقات العربية الهندية وتفعيل التعاون الاقتصادي المشترك، قام سعادة السفير الدكتور ربيع نرش، سفير الجمهورية اللبنانية لدى الهند، بزيارة رسمية إلى الغرفة العربية الهندية للتجارة والصناعة والزراعة في العاصمة نيودلهي.
وكان في استقبال سعادته الدكتور وائل عواد، المدير المكلف بإدارة شؤون الغرفة، حيث اطّلع السفير على سير العمل داخل الغرفة والتحضيرات الجارية لإطلاق نشاطها رسميًا في الهند خلال الفترة المقبلة.
وأعرب السفير نرش عن تقديره العميق للجهود التنظيمية والمهنية التي تبذلها الغرفة، مشيدًا بالدور الذي يقوم به الدكتور وائل عواد في تأسيس أرضية صلبة للتعاون الاقتصادي بين الهند والدول العربية. كما أكد سعادته على دعم لبنان الكامل لرسالة الغرفة، واستعداده للمساهمة في إنجاح مهامها انطلاقًا من إيمانه بأهمية العمل العربي المشترك في مجالات التجارة والاستثمار.
وخلال اللقاء، أشار السفير إلى متانة العلاقات السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية بين لبنان والهند، والتي تقوم على الاحترام المتبادل والتعاون البنّاء في المحافل الدولية، لافتًا إلى وجود عدد من الاتفاقيات الثنائية بين البلدين، من أبرزها:
اتفاقية في مجال الخدمات الجوية
اتفاقية لتفادي الازدواج الضريبي على مؤسسات الطيران
اتفاقية ثقافية وتعاون تراثي
برنامج تبادل تربوي
اتفاق لتسيير رحلات جوية مباشرة بين بيروت ومدن هندية
وأوضح السفير أن حجم التبادل التجاري بين البلدين، رغم محدوديته النسبية، يشهد نموًا ملحوظًا ويعكس رغبة متبادلة في تطوير التعاون. وتشمل الصادرات اللبنانية إلى الهند: المعادن الخام، المنتجات الكيميائية، الآلات الطبية والبصرية، في حين تتركز الواردات من الهند على الأحجار الكريمة، المنتجات الزراعية، اللحوم، والمعدات الكهربائية.
وفي ختام زيارته، أشاد السفير اللبناني بدور الهند خلال جائحة كوفيد-19، منوهًا بالمساعدات الطبية التي قدمتها، ومثمنًا المشاركة الفاعلة للقوات الهندية في قوات حفظ السلام العاملة في جنوب لبنان.
وأكد أن لبنان ينظر بإيجابية كبيرة إلى انطلاقة الغرفة العربية الهندية، معربًا عن أمله في أن تُشكل منصة فعالة لتعزيز العلاقات الاقتصادية بين الجانبين، ورافعة جديدة للعمل العربي المشترك في جنوب آسيا.
