
Djibouti envoy, IACCIA Acting Secretary General set sights on strengthening bilateral trade
In a meaningful step towards strengthening economic cooperation between India and the Arab world, the India & Arab Countries Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (IACCIA) Acting Secretary General Dr. Waiel Awwad met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to India, H.E. Mr. Isse Abdillahi Assoweh, at the Embassy of Djibouti in New Delhi.
The discussions centered around enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and collaboration across key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. Dr. Awwad shared insights into the Chamber’s current initiatives designed to foster economic partnerships between India and Arab nations. He emphasized the Chamber’s growing role as a strategic platform for promoting cross-regional business opportunities.
Ambassador Assoweh expressed strong interest in leveraging the Chamber’s network to position Djibouti as a vital gateway for Indian businesses aiming to expand into the Horn of Africa and the wider Arab region. He highlighted Djibouti’s strategic geographic location, modern infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies as critical advantages for Indian enterprises.
The meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to deepening economic ties, building on the foundation laid by initiatives such as the India-Djibouti Trade Forum and the India-Djibouti Business Council. Plans were discussed for joint initiatives including trade delegations, business matchmaking forums, and sector-specific engagements.
The IACCCIA reiterated its mission to strengthen Indo-Arab economic relations and affirmed its support for projects that contribute to sustainable, inclusive economic development. Djibouti, as a key Arab nation, has played a significant role in supporting the establishment of the Chamber and continues to back efforts to enhance people-to-people and business ties between India and the Arab world.
