Syrian Ambassador visits IACCIA headquarter; discusses trade opportunities
The Syrian Ambassador to India, His Excellency Dr Bassam Alkhatib , paid a courtesy visit to the India and Arab Chamber of Commerce , Industry and Agriculture,in New Delhi on May 2, 2025.
His Excellency was warmly received by the Acting Secretary General of the Chamber Dr.Waiel Awwad . During the meeting, both parties engaged in an in-depth discussion on the pivotal role of the Chamber in strengthening economic cooperation between Syria and India.
The Ambassador emphasized the strategic importance of revitalizing Syria’s economic ties with India, particularly in light of the recent formation of a new government in Damascus. He underscored Syria’s commitment to economic recovery and reconstruction, and expressed a strong interest in fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with Indian entrepreneurs and businesses.
His Excellency commended the Chamber for its vital work in promoting regional cooperation and extended special congratulations to Dr. Awwad for his dedication and leadership. He assured the Chamber of his full support in its efforts to facilitate greater economic engagement and contribute to the success of its mission.
The Acting Secretary General reiterated the Chamber’s readiness to support Syria’s economic reintegration by facilitating dialogue, investment opportunities, and trade initiatives between the two nations. Both sides agreed on the necessity of enhanced collaboration in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, healthcare, and technology, which are key to Syria’s rebuilding efforts.

قام سعادة السفير السوري لدى الهند، الدكتور بسام الخطيب، بزيارة ودية إلى غرفة التجارة والصناعة والزراعة الهندية والعربية في نيودلهي يوم ٢ مايو ٢٠٢٥. استقبل سعادة السفير بحرارة من قبل القائم بأعمال الأمين العام للغرفة، الدكتور وائل عواد. وخلال الاجتماع، أجرى الطرفان نقاشًا معمقًا حول الدور المحوري للغرفة في تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي بين سوريا والهند. أكد السفير على الأهمية الإستراتيجية لإحياء العلاقات الاقتصادية بين سوريا والهند، لا سيما في ضوء التشكيل الأخير للحكومة الجديدة في دمشق. كما أكد التزام سوريا بالتعافي الاقتصادي وإعادة الإعمار، وأعرب عن اهتمامه القوي بتعزيز الشراكات ذات المنفعة المتبادلة مع رواد الأعمال والشركات الهندية. وأشاد سعادته بالغرفة لجهودها الحيوية في تعزيز التعاون الإقليمي، وهنأ الدكتور عواد على تفانيه وقيادته. وأكد للغرفة دعمه الكامل لجهودها الرامية إلى تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي والمساهمة في نجاح مهمتها. وأكد القائم بأعمال الأمين العام استعداد الغرفة لدعم إعادة إدماج سوريا اقتصاديًا من خلال تسهيل الحوار وفرص الاستثمار والمبادرات التجارية بين البلدين. واتفق الجانبان على ضرورة تعزيز التعاون في قطاعات مثل البنية التحتية والطاقة والرعاية الصحية والتكنولوجيا، والتي تُعدّ أساسية لجهود إعادة إعمار سوريا.
