Al-Baghdadi: Real opportunities for Iraqi-Indian partnerships in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors
Baghdad: Dr. Mohammed Abdul Sattar Al-Baghdadi, representative of the Arab-Indian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Baghdad, has highlighted significant opportunities to expand economic and commercial cooperation between Iraq and India, particularly in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and medical equipment sectors. He stressed the need to move beyond traditional trade exchanges and promote direct business partnerships, joint investments and stronger engagement between companies and entrepreneurs from both countries.
"The Iraqi market represents a promising destination for Indian companies, particularly in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and medical equipment sectors. There are genuine opportunities to move beyond conventional trade and establish direct partnerships and investments between business people and companies in both countries," Al-Baghdadi said.
He emphasised that direct meetings between Iraqi and Indian business representatives are essential to developing a deeper understanding of market requirements, identifying investment prospects and establishing sustainable, long-term commercial relationships.
Al-Baghdadi further noted the growing interest among Indian companies in strengthening cooperation with Iraq's private sector and exploring opportunities in the local market. He underlined the importance of enhancing communication and engagement between the business communities of the two countries to translate mutual understanding and commercial interactions into tangible projects, investments and strategic partnerships.

His remarks followed a business meeting organised by the Embassy of India in Baghdad in late October, bringing together Indian companies participating in Iraq's International Health Exhibition and Conference and Iraqi companies operating in the healthcare, medical and pharmaceutical sectors.
The meeting focused on exploring avenues for cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical devices and supplies. Discussions also examined the potential for establishing business partnerships and joint investments between Iraqi and Indian companies, with a view to advancing the healthcare sector and further strengthening bilateral economic relations.

The meeting was held alongside the participation of several Indian companies in the International Health Exhibition and Conference, which took place in Baghdad from October 28 to 31, 2026. The event provided a platform for direct interaction among specialised companies from both countries and offered an opportunity to showcase the latest products, technologies and solutions in the healthcare and medical sectors.
